By Lukman Iskandar

Thailand

4th June, 2001

Central Mosque, Pattani, Thailand.

A novel written by Lukman Iskandar, 25-year architect in both urban and jungle guerrilla warfare against Thai authorities. The man who championed in war and pioneered to peace. Finally he signed peace pact with Thai authorities represented by Region Four Army of Thailand.

Province of Pattani, Thailand.
It's not a real republic, but is a dreamland of 6 million people of Patani based on a novel written by Lukman Iskandar. The novel was selected as Top Ten of Malaysia National Novel Award 1994. It is a story of an unfortunate jetfighter pilot who plundered his sophisticated aircraft in the dense jungle of Patani. He parachuted safely to the ground, but discovered that he was in the dense jungle controlled partially by the communists, the Muslim guerrillas, Thai and Malaysian authorities.

He was rescued by the Muslim guerrillas of Patani who were fighting to liberate their homeland from Thai colonial rule. In the jungle he met a beautiful US lady who had been abducted by the Muslim guerrillas in protest to US's bombardment on the Islamic Republic of Iran. They fell in love.

The novel was written while Lukman was detained under draconian Internal Security Act (ISA), Malaysia's infamous primitive law, condemned by the whole world and violated UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

This novel is dedicated with obligation to:-

1. My mother, Hajah Cik Intan, who was born as a grand-daughter to an Arab Sheikh from Hadramaut, Yemen who migrated to Aceh, Indonesia.
2. My father who was born as a great grandson of Chaokunbara Pakdee, the last regent of Setul Bambang Negera before the empire was conquered by the Thais.
3. My adopted father, Syed Abdul Qayoom Akhunzadah Khan, who had been addressed as President of Republic of Pattani during his lifetime. He was one of the founder members of a liberation front known as BRN, whom I later succeeded him as Secretary General, and finally I signed peace negotiation settlement agreement to resolve the 200-years disputes with Thai government.
4. My friend, Lt. General (Air Force) Mohamed Taib, retired Commander of Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).
5. My ex-classmate, during my study in Toronto, Canada, Captain (Air Force) Abi Yazid.
6. Terry Young, Toronto, Canada
Muslims in Thailand7. Susie Muscarella, California, USA
8. Tengku Fauziah Osman
9. Sharifah Fasihah Jamalulail
10. Ustaz Karim Hassan, another founder member of BRN and an Islamic Cleric of Patani who led 35-year liberation war and finally entered into peace with Thai authorities under Royal Decree 66/23, from whom I gained ideas to the creation of this great novel as a pride of Patani people.

My obligations and salutations to the great warriors and patriotic people of Patani who suffered great losses in lives, properties, morals and images.
