Poem Of Death
Unknown, Submitted by A.G.Karim
was early in the morning at four,
When death knocked upon
a bedroom door,
Who is there? The sleeping one cried.
I'm Azrael, Let me come inside.
once, the man began to shiver,
As one sweating in deadly fever,
He shouted to his sleeping wife,
Don't let him take away my life.
go away, O Angel of Death!
Leave me alone; I'm not ready yet.
My family depends on me,
Give me a chance, O please prepense!
angel knocked again and again,
Friend! I'll take your life without a pain,
It's your soul Allah requires,
I come not with my own desire.
the man began to cry,
O Angel I'm so afraid to die,
I'll give you gold and be your slave,
Don't send me to the unlit grave.
me in, O Friend! The Angel said,
the door; get up from your bed,
you do not allow me in,
will walk through it, like a Jinn.
man held a gun in his right hand,
to defy the Angel's stand.
point my gun, towards your head,
dare come in; I'll shoot you dead.
now the Angel was in the room,
O Friend! Prepare for your doom.
man, Angels never die,
down your gun and do not sigh.
are you afraid! Tell me O man,
die according to Allah's plan?
smile at me, do not be grim,
Happy to return to Him.
Angel! I bow my head in shame,
had no time to take Allah's Name.
morning till dusk, I made my wealth,
even caring for my health.
command I never obeyed,
five times a day I ever prayed.
Ramadhan came and a Ramadan went,
no time had I to repent.
Hajj was already fard on me,
I would not part with my money.
charities I did ignore,
usury more and more.
I sipped my favourite wine,
flirting women I sat to dine.
Angel! I appeal to you,
my life for a year or two.
Laws of Quraan I will obey,
begin Salat this very day.
Fast and Hajj, I will complete,
keep away from self conceit.
will refrain from usury,
give all my wealth to charity,
and wenches I will detest,
oneness I will attest.
Angels do what Allah demands,
cannot go against His commands.
is ordained for everyone,
mother, daughter or son.
afraid this moment is your last,
be reminded, of your past,
do understand your fears,
it is now too late for tears.
lived in this world, two score and more,
did you, your people adore.
parents, you did not obey,
beggars, you turned away.
two ill-gotten, female offspring's,
night clubs, for livelihood they sing.
of making more Muslims,
made your children non-Muslims.
ignored the Mua'dhin Adhaan,
did you read the Holy Quran.
promises all your life,
friends, and causing strife.
hoarded goods, great profits you made,
your poor workers, you underpaid.
and cards were your leisure,
making was your pleasure.
ate vitamins and grew more fat,
the very sick, you never sat.
pint of blood you never gave,
could a little baby save.
Human, you have done enough wrong,
bought good properties for a song.
the farmers appealed to you,
did not have mercy, this is true.
for you? I cannot tell,
you will dwell in hell.
is no time for you to repent,
take your soul for which I am sent.
ending however, is very sad,
the man got very mad,
a cry, he jumped out of bed,
suddenly, he fell down dead.
Reader! Take moral from here,
you never know, your end may be near
living and make amends
for heaven, on your deeds depends.
