Preparation for the Hajj Journey

The following notes are
for every individual to ponder over and act upon. Please take
some time and carefully read through them. If there are any
queries or you require clarification on any aspects of these
notes, please contact the group leader or the Aalim.
There are four vital (obligatory) points for you to act upon
before you embark on your spiritual journey of Hajj. These are
Taqleed. It is crucial that
you are a muqallid. It is vital that your actions and
procedures in worship are according to the rulings of that
Mujtahid. Please inform the group leader or Aalim of your
Marj’aa Taqleed as there are slight variations in rulings.
Khums. The entire money you have
utilised for your journey must be Paak i.e. all religious
and other dues have been paid. It is wajib to have
fulfilled the right of the Twelfth Imam (aj) before your
Wudhu. This is one of those
actions that people pay least attention to but is the most
important act ensuring the correctness of your ibadaat.
Please check that your wudhu is correct, ask an Aalim if
Qira’at. Correct pronunciation of
the Zikr with sound Makhraj. It is vital that at least
your wajib actions i.e. Salaat, Talbiyyah (Labbayk) etc
are recited with the correct pronunciation.

recommended points for Hajj are as follows:
It is highly recommended
to write your will or notify someone of your wishes as you
are leaving for such an important journey.
Make a list of all the ibadaat that you
would like to perform whilst you are on this spiritual
journey. It is considered one of the best acts to complete
an entire Quran if possible inside the Haram in Makkah or
Before leaving home, perform Ghusl with
the niyyat for ‘travelling to Makkah for Hajjatul Islam,
Qurbatan Ilallahi Ta’alah’. During your ghusl, ask Allah
to wash away your sins as you wash your body. Pray that
your Nafs is made paak and any najasat inside your body is
removed. After the ghusl, perform two Rakaat Salaat with
the intention of ‘Qurbatan Ilallahi Ta’allah’ and two
Rakaat Salaat Hajaat.
Pray for all
mo’mineen, relatives and friends for their safety and for
your safe return.

and colleagues) for any wrongs or injustices you may have
done to them.
home, give Sadaqa, recite the Tasbih of Sayyeda Fatima
('a), then recite Surah Al-Hamd once while looking to the
right, once while looking to the left and once while
looking straight ahead. Recite Ayatul Kursi once, Surah
Ikhlaas 11 times, Surah Qadr once, Surah Naas once and
Surah Falaq once. Also recite the following dua:
"Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem. Bismmillahi
aamantu Billahi laa hawla wa laa quwwata illa Billahil
Keep an Aqeeq ring and a small Holy
Quran in your possession.
Whilst in the car, bus or train on the
way to the airport (or port etc) say:
"Subhanallah" 7 times, "Laa Ilahaa
Illallah" 7 times,
"Allahu Akbar" 100 times, Salawat
Also anytime during the journey by car, plane
or any other method of travel, keep reciting
"Alhamdulillah", "Subhanallah’, "Astaghfirullah", "Shukran
Lillah", "Mash' Allah", "Laa Hawla wa laa quwatta illa
Billahil Aliyyil Adheem" and salawat as many times as
Remember to recite Surah Ikhlaas 3 times
each time the car, bus or plane is about to depart. Recite
also the following dua :
Hadha wa maa kunna lahu Muqrineen.Wa inna illaa Rabbina
Also, anytime while travelling, recite
Kalema often, give sadaqa and recite: "A’udhu Billahi
minash shaitanir rajeem" as many times as possible.
It is very important that for all your
actions during Hajj, that niyyat (intention) is made
(verbal or non verbal) of "Qurbatan Illallah"
